Each of Rosewood’s mooncake recipes represents a time-honoured tradition brought to life by Chinese Executive Chef Li Chi-Wai. Offering five mooncake flavours, from traditional tastes like White Lotus Seed Paste with Double Egg to creative variations like Jasmine Egg Custard, each is hand-crafted from the finest ingredients.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is one of the world’s oldest harvest celebrations. Falling on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, the exchange of mooncakes – densely flavourful pastry with luscious fillings – is a big part of the tradition.
Mooncakes come in many sweet and savoury flavours and differ delightfully by region. Shanghai-style mooncakes feature the traditional red bean paste. In Hong Kong, custard mooncakes are increasingly popular, while Chaosan mooncakes are famous for their spiral patterns and taro filling. The Mooncake Festival 2023 promises ever more innovative flavours to discover.
