Originating in Kyoto in the 1920s, Hojicha was crafted to utilise leftover tea leaves and stems. This roasted green tea reveals deep umami notes of nori seaweed, roasted hazelnut, and delicate smoke, balanced by dry, woody tannins.
This Hojicha is sourced from Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture, nestled along Japan’s Pacific coast. Grown in the Tenryu region at 500 metres elevation, the tea is harvested during the summer’s second flush. Fresh Sencha leaves are steamed, rolled, dried, and roasted to achieve the signature toasty profile. It serves as a great alternative to alcohol-based sparkling wines.
